HURRICANE, WV – Lakeside Elementary School announces the retirement of fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Tammy Brown, who has made the heartfelt decision to retire to care for family members experiencing medical difficulties.
Mrs. Brown's retirement marks the conclusion of an exceptional career defined by unwavering dedication to students, families, and colleagues. Throughout 17 years at Lakeside Elementary and 21 total years in teaching, she established herself as a respected educator known for her high expectations, relentless pursuit of excellence, and deep passion for mathematics and STEAM education.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Brown was a driving force behind many of the experiences that made fifth grade memorable for Lakeside students. She organized countless out-of-state field trips, led Math Field Day teams, coordinated ceremonies and celebrations, and created meaningful classroom projects that welcomed and engaged families as partners in learning. Her efforts helped foster a strong sense of community while creating lasting memories for students and their families. Mrs. Brown consistently modeled dedication, integrity, and work ethic. Colleagues often noted that she never suggested a task or initiative that she had not already done herself or would not willingly undertake.

"Lakeside will benefit from her contributions for years through work the public never saw, such as the attendance framework she helped develop, to her firm belief that all students at Lakeside could be successful. Her commitment to excellence challenged all of us to take action to be better educators. Her profound influence on students, staff, and families will continue long after her retirement. In my conversations with former Lakeside learners, it never fails that someone will mention how Mrs. Brown was one of their favorite teachers."
